R.I.P. Telenovela Actress Monica Spear

 
The telenovela star and former Miss Venezuela and her ex-husband were shot to death last night on a highway near Puerto Cabello. Monica Spear was 29. The couple’s car had broken down, and Venezuelan authorities believe they were killed by would-be robbers or kidnappers. Their 5-year-old daughter was wounded but is expected to survive. Spear starred on a pair of Telemundo telenovelas — Flor Salvaje (Savage Flower) in 2011-12 and last year’s Pasion Prohibida (Forbidden Love) — after toplining the 2010-11 Venezueian soap La Mujer Perfecta (The Perfect Woman). She also Flor-salvaje-24appeared on other local telenovelas starting with the remake of El Desprecio in 2006. “We are deeply saddened by the horrible crime that affected the beloved actress Monica Spears and her family,” Telemundo said today in a statement.
 
“Monica was not only a great professional, as we saw in the two novelas she worked with us, but also an excellent person, always enthusiastic, full of strength and determination. We wish a quick recovery to her daughter and send our deepest condolences to her family.” Spear won the Miss Venezuela crown in 2004 and made the final 15 in the Miss Universe Pageant the following year.

Venezuelan Actress Monica Spear Mootz and Ex-Husband Murdered

 
A Venezuelan actress and her ex-husband were killed in front of their young daughter during a roadside robbery near Valencia.

Monica Spear Mootz, 29, and Thomas Henry Berry, 39, were killed after their car broke down on the Puerto Cabello-Valencia Road Monday, according to Telemundo 51. They were waiting for a repair truck when they were killed.

They are survived by their 5-year-old daughter Maya, who was in the car at the time and was wounded in the gunfire but is expected to be okay.

The motive for the murder is believed to be the theft of the car. Local police are investigating the murders.

Spear starred in several telenovelas, most recently on Telemundo's "Pasion Prohibida" alongside Miami's Jencarlos Canela.
 
Canela mourned Spear on Twitter, saying in Spanish that he is without words, and reaching out to Spear's now-orphaned daughter, promising that she is not alone.

Miguel Varoni, who directed Spear in her last telenovela, said he was shocked when his wife told him the news of Spear's death.

“She was a beautiful crazy girl, beautiful, really pretty, pretty crazy girl. And she was an awesome actress," Varoni said.

The incident has focused attention on the increasing number of violent crimes in Venezuela. The country experienced more than 24,000 homicides in 2013. The U.S. Department of State rates the criminal threat level in Venezuela's capital Caracas as "Critical."
 
Mootz became Miss Venezuela in 2004. She represented Venezuela at Miss Universe 2005 in Bangkok, and finished fourth runner-up.

“Telemundo is Monica's work home,” said Telemundo executive Joshua Mintz. “Monica Spear was an American citizen, and even though that she was an American citizen, she could live here, she stayed in Venezuela, her home, and it’s very, very sad for all of us that she's not here anymore.”

Miss Venezuela Monica Spear and her ex-husband have been killed in front of their 5-year-old daughter in a robbery.

The incident happened Monday night on a roadside on the port near Puerto Cabello in Venezuela.

Spear, 29, and Irish ex-husband Henry Thomas Berry, 39, had stopped at the roadside after their car broke down when their car crashed. Robbers attacked the family, and the pair is said to have resisted robbery when they were shot to death. Their daughter was in the car but escaped with a bullet wound to her leg.

The pair was waiting for a tow truck to arrive when they were attacked and murdered by the robbers. The assailants are unknown.

The family was in the country on vacation and was traveling in a gray 2002 Corolla Toyota. They were on their way to Valencia when they were attacked.

Spear won the crown for Miss Venezuela in 2004 and also appeared in America's Telemundo network. Her most recent work was on "Pasion Prohibida." She also starred in Telemundo's "Flor Salvaje" in 2011. Spears had been splitting her time between her native country and the U.S.

El Gobierno habilitó un avión para trasladar los familiares de la actriz venezolana Mónica Spear al país, asesinada junto a su esposo la madrugada del lunes, informó este martes el presidente del Movimiento Venezolano de Artistas, Roberto Messuti.

“Sus familiares llegan esta noche en un vuelo especial que el Gobierno puso a su disposición para que puedan despedir y dar el último adiós a su hija”, expresó en declaraciones transmitidas por Venezolana de Televisión, desde el Palacio de Miraflores, Caracas, donde el Movimiento Venezolano de Artistas se reunió con el presidente de la República, Nicolás Maduro.

Messuti reiteró su llamado a la paz, a la tolerancia y al cese de la violencia en el país. “Tenemos que seguir poniendo nuestro granito de arena y colaborando en dosificar y pacificar al país, y en entender que somos hermanos por más diferencias que podamos tener”, agregó el actor.

Las experticias en el lugar de los hechos y la detención de cinco personas son parte de las acciones adelantadas para esclarecer la muerte de Mónica Spear y su pareja, Thomas Henry Berry, cuyos cuerpos fueron encontrados sin vida este lunes en el interior del vehículo en el que se desplazaban por la autopista Puerto Cabello–Valencia, en el estado Carabobo.

Former Venezuelan beauty queen Monica Spear, 29, and her Irish husband Thomas Berry have been shot dead in their car in Venezuela.

Their five-year-old daughter, who was injured in the incident, is said to be in a stable condition in hospital.

Police have launched a investigation into the killing, which happened on the highway leading from Valencia to Puerto Cabello.

Ms Spear became Miss Venezuela in 2004, and also acted in soap operas including Telemundo's "Flor Salvaje" in 2011, and most recently, "Pasion Prohibida" in 2013.


Local media reported that Ms Spear and her husband had stopped by the roadside because their car had broken down.

The gunmen opened fire in what police said might have been a robbery gone wrong.

Venezuela has one of the highest murder rates in the world, and armed robberies and kidnappings are not unusual.

In one of her last Twitter posts, Venezuelan beauty queen Monica Spear wished her fans peace, health and love.

Monica Spear, 29, was enjoying a loving family vacation with her husband Thomas Henry Berry, 49, before the pair were killed in front of their five-year-old daughter Spear and her ex-husband, Thomas Henry Berry, were driving in Venezuela’s Carabobo state Monday night when their car broke down, officials said. Armed robbers opened fire, killing both of them.

Their 5-year-old daughter survived Monday’s shooting, authorities said, but was shot in the leg.

“It is presumed that the motive was robbery,” Venezuelan Justice Minister Miguel Rodriguez Torres said. “We are still investigating. There are five people detained who are being interrogated.”

Spear was Miss Venezuela in 2004 and represented her country in the Miss Universe pageant the next year.

Five people have been detained and were interrogated in connection with the killings, Interior Minister Miguel Rodriguez said after a televised meeting with President Nicolas Maduro, who vowed to use an "iron hand" to crack down on crime.

Actress Monica Spear and her family were murdered in Puerto Cabello Monday night amid an alleged theft .

According to a Twitter @ noticierovv the event occurred in the Central Regional Highway when the vehicle they were traveling in was injured on the road .

They note that while waiting for the crane came criminals trying to steal their belongings. Apparently opposed to theft and were killed.

Spear was with his daughter, who was also shot but is out of danger, and her former husband , Thomas Henry Berry , 49 -year-old Irish , who also died .

The Miss Venezuela 2004 was in the country enjoying a holiday .

Monica Spear was born in Maracaibo on October 1, 1984 , was an actress , model and beauty queen. Was the winner in the Miss Venezuela 2004 , representing the country at Miss Universe 2005 , held in Bangkok, and getting dumped as fourth runner-up.

Among the most outstanding work of the young 29 year old my cousin are Ciela (RCTV ) , The perfect woman ( Venevision ) and Forbidden Passion ( Telemundo ) .

His daughter Maya Berry Spear was born in October 2008, after her marriage to businessman Thomas Henry Berry.

CARACAS —  Assailants shot dead a former Miss Venezuela and her ex-husband in the latest high-profile case of violent crime in the South American nation, authorities said on Tuesday.

Monica Spear, 29, who was also a soap opera actress, and Henry Berry, 39, died in an attempted robbery on the highway between Puerto Cabello and Valencia in central Venezuela.

The 2004 Miss Venezuela winner lived in the United States but was vacationing in Venezuela. The pair's 5-year-old daughter survived the attack late on Monday, but with a bullet wound in her leg, the government and local media said.

Reports indicated Spear's car may have broken down before armed robbers approached - a common occurrence on roads after dark in one of the world's most violent nations.
